Luton 1-1 Newport County

League leaders Luton were humbled on Tuesday after being held to a 1-1 home draw by Blue Square Bet Premier newcomers Newport County.

In a gritty affair - which saw Luton miss a penalty and have a man sent off - County took a surprise lead when Charlie Henry drove home a low shot in the 26th minute.

However, there was little time for celebration as Zdenek Kroca equalised five minutes later to the relief of the Kenilworth Road faithful.

After the restart, the unbeaten Hatters were denied the lead - and effectively maximum points - when Glyn Thompson saved a 74th minute penalty by Matthew Barnes-Homer, following a foul on Danny Crow.

It got worse for Hatters boss Richard Money when Keith Keane was sent off in the final minute for a second bookable offence.

Nevertheless, Luton remain a point clear of closest rivals AFC Wimbledon at the summit, while County are hovering just above the relegation zone in 20th place.

Luton sending off: Keane.

Luton bookings: Keane, Craddock.

Newport bookings: Henry.
