Ben Purkiss

Histon 1-1 York City

Histon ended York City's club record nine-game winning run by holding them to a 1-1 draw at the Glassworld Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Ben Purkiss gave his side a 20th minute lead but Bradley Hudson-Odoi netted in the 43rd minute to lift the Stutes nine points clear of the drop zone and end their two-game losing run.

The home side started brightly as Matt Langston came close with a headed effort before Gareth Gwillim tested the York defence with a dangerous free kick.

New signing Glen Southam settled almost immediately and was at the thick of the action early on. His inch-perfect through-ball sent Hudson-Odoi in on goal, but the striker only succeeded in putting his effort over the bar.

York, however didn't take long to find their passing rhythm and were soon in the lead after a fantastic counter-attack that saw Ben Purkiss smashing home a 25-yard shot.

Raised by their home support Histon continued to push forward and York goalkeeper Michael Ingham did expertly to deny Andrew Tidswell.

But he could do nothing to keep out Hudson-Odoi, who found the top right corner of the net from close range after connecting with Gareth Gwillim's free-kick.

Histon emerged for the second half the same way they finished the first but failed to find an end product.

Michael Gash came close to regaining the lead for York but his volley was pushed away by keeper Danny Naisbitt.

Hudson-Odoi continued to threaten as he tested Ingham but as the game wore on York's defence held strong although without 24-goal top scorer Richard Brodie, who is serving a two-game ban, they were unable to find a breakthrough at the other end.
