Blyth re-sign Player of the Year Pell

Blyth Spartans have re-signed last season's Player of the Year Richard Pell from Blue Square North rivals Alfreton Town for an undisclosed four figure fee.

The 27-year-old central defender was a key performer in last season's FA Cup run and will provide much needed height and strength to the Spartans rearguard.

"We are delighted that, due to him securing a new job in Newcastle, we have been able negotiate a mutually acceptable arrangement with Richard and Alfreton to once again secure his services for Blyth," said Spartans chairman Tony Platten.

"Richard delivered outstanding performances throughout the 2008/09 season particularly in the memorable FA Cup run.

"Manager Mick Tait did an outstanding job negotiating the deal and I am sure that supporters will give him a rousing welcome back to the Club."

Tait, who has missed out on Spennymoor Town midfielder Chris Emms, is delighted to bring the commanding Pell back to Croft Park.

"Richard did very well for Blyth last season and was very popular with the fans," said Tait "he will give us height in both penalty areas and is a quality addition to the squad."

Pell, who left Blyth Spartans during the summer, will make his seasonal debut in Monday's home game against Farsley Celtic but is FA Trophy-tied having played in the competition for Alfreton.
