Burton Albion 2-1 Stafford

Jake Edwards' second-half goal gave high-flying Burton Albion a crucial win over Stafford Rangers on New Year's day.

Going into the fixture Albion were fifth while Rangers lay second from bottom.

Marc Goodfellow gave the Pirelli Stadium something to shout about in the 33rd minute.

He met Daryl Clare's cross and finished beautifully with his left foot to make the score 1-0 to the hosts.

Five minutes before the break Rangers were back in the game. Tom Ingram played a lovely through ball for David McNiven who slid the ball past Saul Deeney.

In the 65th minute Keith Gilroy dribbled to the byline and crossed, where a lurking Edwards pounced to snatch all three points for the Brewers.

The result moves Nigel Clough's team into fourth while Rangers lie 23rd.
