Rushden & D'mnds 1-0 Stevenage

Rushden & Diamonds continued their push for a play-off spot as they knocked Stevenage off the top of the Blue Square Premier standings with a 1-0 win at Nene Park on Saturday.

Substitute Rob Wolleaston's goal two minutes from time was enough to give the home side the three points and move them up to fourth in the Blue Square Premier standings.

Stevenage started the game the brighter of the two sides and Jon Ashton had a great chance to give them an early lead when he found himself in some space on the edge of the area, but failed to trouble the Diamonds stopper Dale Roberts with his effort.

Aaron O'Connor had the home side's best effort of the first-half when his deflected shot went just wide of Chris Day's post just before the break.

Jefferson Louis missed a golden opportunity to put Diamonds in front shortly after they break when he found himself through on goal, but he dragged his shot across the face of goal.

Just as it seemed the encounter was heading for a goalless draw, Wolleaston produced a moment of brilliance as his wonder strike from 30-yards out found the back of the net to earn his side three points.

Rushden & D'monds bookings: Terry, Robinson.

Stevenage bookings: Bridges, Bostwick.
