AFC Wimbledon 0-2 Grays

Grays Athletic restored some of their pride with a surprise victory over sixth-placed AFC Wimbledon at Kingsmeadow on Tuesday evening.

The Gravelmen's relegation had already been confirmed prior to the clash, while the Dons had missed out on a place in the end-of-season play-offs.

The Dons had more than enough chances to match their opponents but a lack of cutting edge ultimately cost them as the visitors struck two second-half goals to claim the spoils.

The best chance of the first half fell to Dons striker Danny Kedwell in injury time but he fired over the crossbar from inside the box.

Grays finally broke the deadlock in the 54th minute when Alex Osborn latched onto a quickly taken free kick before firing into the bottom-left corner from inside the penalty box.

The hosts continued to pile forward by Grays goalkeeper Glyn Garner was up to the task, denying efforts from Kedwell, Luke Moore and Elliott Godfrey.

And a frustrating evening for the Dons was summed up when Jay Conroy brought down Alex Rhodes in the penalty area on 72 minutes.

Jamie Guy made no mistake from the penalty spot to give his side a two-goal cushion heading into the final few minutes of the encounter.

However, Terry Brown's side were unable to break down an obstinate Grays defence, who held firm to keep a rare clean sheet.

AFC Wimbledon bookings: None.

Grays bookings: Dean, Rhodes, Harvey, Graham.

Ref: Chris Powell (Dorset).

Att: 3,015.
