Andy Sandell
Andy Sandell rescued a point for Newport County in a 1-1 draw with Cambridge United on Tuesday.
Sandell converted a penalty four minutes from time, cancelling out Josh Dawkin's 24th minute opener at Abbey Stadium.
The result leaves the Exiles 18th on the Blue Square Bet Premier table with 35 points - two above the drop zone and 23 short of 10th-placed Cambridge.
In a gritty match, Nat Jarvis fired wide early on for the visitors.
But it was the U's who took the lead, as Dawkin's shot from a tight angle squeezed under Glyn Thompson at the near post midway through the half.
The Welsh outfit then thought they had equalised via an Elliott Buchanan header, but the effort was ruled out for a foul on Danny Naisbitt.
United's Andy Pugh scuppered a simple chance around the half-hour mark before his team-mate James Jennings rattled the post with a powerful strike in the 70th minute.
The hosts were seemingly on course for victory but were knocked back when Kevin Roberts was penalised for a hand-ball in the box, with Sandell making no mistake from the spot.
Cambridge bookings: Roberts, Tyriaki.
Newport bookings: Rose.
