Liam Hatch
Gateshead kept their play-off hopes alive with a 1-0 victory over Cambridge United in a Blue Square Bet Premier clash on Saturday.
Liam Hatch's 48th minute header proved decisive at Abbey Stadium, leaving the Tynesiders eighth on the table with 60 points - six behind fifth-placed Southport, who have played an extra game.
The U's are 11 points off the play-off zone in 10th spot.
In a drab contest, neither goalkeeper had much to do, although United's Jonathon Thorpe threatened when he had a shot blocked early on.
Gateshead struck what amounted to be the telling blow early in to the second period as Hatch rose above Kevin Roberts to nod home a Martin Brittain cross.
The hosts were unable to find a way back, with Andy Pugh directing a header wayward in one of their rare forays on the day.
