Cambridge Utd 0-1 Tamworth

Marcus Law's Tamworth won their first match since the end of November with a 1-0 victory over Cambridge United at the Abbey Stadium on Saturday.

Liam McDonald scored the only goal of the game on 50 minutes and it turned out to be enough for the Lambs to claim a valuable three points.

Cambridge started brightly with Luke Berry heading agonisingly wide from Rossi Jarvis' corner, before Ashley Carew fired a free-kick straight into the arms of Tamworth keeper Jonathan Hedge.

Tamworth's Kyle Patterson saw his powerful angled shot saved by U's 'keeper Danny Naisbitt on 25 minutes, while Samuel Oji's bullet header was tipped over by Naisbitt just moments before the half-time break.

The Lambs carried their momentum into the second period and claimed the lead on 50 minutes when McDonald's effort from 20 yards took a wicked deflection off Blaine Hudson before looping over Naisbitt and into the back of the net.

The visitors had a great chance to double their advantage on 56 minutes but Paul Green fired wide when through on goal.

Cambridge clawed their way back into contention in the closing stages of the contest but Brett Johnson's header was off target, while team-mate Michael Gash hit the post with a header of his own in stoppage time.

Cambridge bookings: Thorpe.

Tamworth bookings: Patterson.
