York 1-2 Salisbury

York City's quest to secure a Blue Square Premier play-off berth suffered a setback on Tuesday as they lost to Salisbury at Bootham Crescent.

Djoumin Sangare's goal just before half time put the home team ahead but second-half goals from Reece Connolly and captain Darrell Clarke handed the Whites the three points and consigned the Minstermen to a third straight defeat.

The visitors should have taken the lead early on but goalkeeper Michael Ingham breathed a sigh of relief as Connolly missed from close range.

However, it was Martin Foyle's men who drew first blood in the 42nd minute when a Neil Barrett set-piece delivery found Sangare and the former Salisbury defender scored with a header to make it 1-0.

After the interval Connolly made amends for his earlier miss with a brilliant volleyed goal in the 53rd minute to level matters on the night.

Then on the 64-minute mark, Tommy Widdrington's charges went ahead through Clarke and although Richard Brodie had a few late chances for York, Salisbury did not relinquish their lead and completed the league double over their hosts.

The result sees Widdrington's side move up to 15th in the standings while York remain sixth, failing to capitalise on fifth-placed Kettering's defeat and fourth-placed Rushden & Diamonds' bye.
