York 1-3 Burton Albion

Nigel Clough will celebrate his manager of the month award for December in style after his side beat York 3-1 at KitKaT Cresent on New Years Day.

Albion opened the scoring just after the half-hour mark when Michael Simpson found the back of the net after the ball fell at his feet when York keeper Greg Pearson parried a Michael Ingham shot away.

York, however, refused to give in and they were rewarded for some good play when Richard Brodie found the bottom left hand corner of the net from the edge of the area in the 38th minute to make sure that they went in to the break level.

Clough's men came out the stronger of the two sides in the second half and they took the lead again after an hour of play when Shaun Harrad scored to make it 2-1.

Marc Goodfellow then wrapped up the victory to make it 11 wins in a row for the Brewers when he netted from the edge of the penalty box as they extend their lead at the top of the Blue Square Premier table.

York bookings: Hogg 41, Robinson 76, Parslow 87

Burton bookings: Simpson 45+1
