Mansfield Town 4-0 Chester City

Mansfield Town heaped more misery on Chester City with a 4-0 hammering of the stricken Blue Square Premier league side.

City, who have the threat of being wound up hanging over their heads, lost their eighth game in nine matches.

Chester remain rock-bottom of the league on minus three while the Stags are keeping their promotion hopes alive in fourth place.

Mansfield Town defender Luke Jones scored his first two goals for the club before Ben Jones put the ball into the wrong net. Jake Speight made it four late on.

Oliver Hotchkiss and Louis Briscoe enjoyed the first two real chances of the game but they both watched as their shots sailed wide of the goal. Glenn Rule was then forced into a last-ditch clearance from Rob Duffy as he looked certain to steer the ball home following a slip from Shaun Kelly.

But it wasn't long before Mansfield opened the scoring as Jones headed home in the 24th minute. Jones only had to wait ten minutes for his second, which also came off his head as he met Ryan Williams' corner.

To make matters worse, City's Jones turned the ball into his own net just minutes later. Danby had produced a fantastic save to deny Foster, but Jones could do nothing with the rebound with Jake Speight ready to pounce.

Mansfield had further chances to extend their lead through Speight, Duffy and Jones but all three failed to find the target.

And with three goals to the good, going into the second period, Town dropped the tempo, only really threatening Chester in the 80th minute when Speight fired home a left-footed finish.
