Braintree Town 3-1 Luton

Luton lost further ground on their Blue Square Bet Premier play-off rivals as they recorded a 3-1 loss to Braintree at the Amlin Stadium on Saturday.

The Hatters are three points behind the three teams above them, all of whom are in the play-off race. Luton have not won in six games, while the Iron recovered from a loss to Alfreton to beat the Hatters and sit comfortably in 12th place.

The home side got the opening goal early on, when Adam Bailey-Dennis headed home in the fifth minute off Pat O'Connor's cross.

The lead stayed in place for a mere two minutes, when Andre Gray equalised for the visitors within the six yard box.

The Iron felt aggrieved when they had two chances disallowed, the first a penalty shout that was instead awarded as a free kick, and the second when Sean Marks' header was disallowed after foul play.

The other goals came late in the game, when Marks nodded home in the 70th minute after pushing forward repeatedly.

The second goal came in injury time, again with Marks' involvement. He made a strong run into the box where Curtis Osano's challenge was deemed illegal. Billy Gibson easily converted the penalty to secure the three points for Braintree.

Braintree bookings: Bailey-Dennis.

Luton bookings: Osano, Gray.
