Barrow 0-1 Luton

Luton Town took three points away from Holker Street as Liam Hatch's late header secured a fortunate one-nil victory over Barrow.

It was a lively start to the game from both sides with an early Barrow error nearly being punished. A Simon Spender backpass put keeper Tim Deasy under pressure and his resulting clearance fell invitingly to Tom Craddock, with the Hatters' striker unable to take full advantage.

Luton continued to pose a threat in the opening stages but were nearly caught out on 18 minutes as Nick Chadwick saw a flicked effort for the Bluebirds flash over the bar. Andy Bond and Carlos Logan also had half chances as Barrow started to work their way back into the match.

Fog descended on Holker Street as the second half got underway with both teams enjoying further chances. Jason Walker forced a sharp save out of Hatter's keeper Mark Tyler while at the other end Mark Nwokeji nearly made an impact off the bench but his shot was easily saved by Deasy.

Liam Hatch was due to be substituted with twelve minutes remaining but then had to stay on as Claude Gnakpa was replaced instead due to injury. It proved a stroke of luck for Luton as five minutes later Hatch's diving header secured the points late on.

It was a cruel late blow for the Bluebirds who might have felt worthy of a point from the game. A Kevin Nicholls' corner just seven minutes from time found Hatch who buried the ball in the far bottom corner.

Hatter's coach Richard Money will be hoping that this result will inspire Luton ahead of their Tuesday night clash against table topping Oxford.
