Gateshead 0-2 Fleetwood Town

Fleetwood Town handed Gateshead their first defeat of season with a 2-0 win at Gateshead International on Tuesday night.

First-half strikes by Magno Vieira and Jamie McGuire gave the Cod Army the three points as they moved up to fifth in the fledgling Blue Square Bet Premier standings.

The visitors should have gone ahead in the 10th minute, but a great save from Gateshead stopper Tim Deasy denied McGuire.

Town should have had a goal of their own after 16 minutes, but Carl Jones's effort was kept out by a good stop from Heed keeper Danny Hurst.

Wayne Curtis was cruelly denied by the post in the 31st minute, but it wasn't long after that Micky Mellon's charges took the lead through Vieira as he bundled the ball into the back of the net from close range four minutes later.

Nine minutes later the Fishermen were two to the good as McGuire's long-range effort hit the inside of Deasy's right-hand post and went into the net.

Ian Bogie's side rallied in the second period, but they were unable to find a way back into the tie as Fleetwood ran out comfortable winners.
