Fleetwood 3-0 Mansfield

Newly promoted Fleetwood Town recorded their first win of the campaign after knocking three goals past Mansfield Town at Highbury Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Striker Magno Vieira was the star of the show as he bagged a brace in the first half to put his side firmly in the driving seat.

Mansfield started the match brightly and almost claimed the lead in the first minute but Alex Smith's goalbound header was cleared off the line by Fleetwood's Paul Linwood.

However, they were unable to build on their promising start and Fleetwood went on to claim the lead in the sixth minute when Ian Craney delivered a cross from the right and Wayne Curtis rose well to head past goalkeeper Alan Marriott.

The hosts doubled their advantage in the 19th minute when Stags skipper Steve Foster failed to clear the ball properly and Vieira skipped past Marriott before firing into an unguarded net.

Fleetwood's third goal arrived on 34 minutes as Wayne Curtis dispossessed Mansfield's Adam Smith before sending an inviting pass into the path of Vieira, who fired into the top-right corner from the edge of the box.

Stags midfielder Gary Mills came close in the second half with a long-range effort which was initially deflected and then tipped onto the crossbar, before going out for a corner.

Mansfield were handed a clear opportunity to pull one back in the 54th minute when Keigan Parker was hauled down in the area by Nathan Pond.

Parker stepped up to take the resulting spot kick but his effort was saved well by Danny Hurst, summing up a miserable evening for David Holdsworth's charges.

Fleetwood bookings: None.

Mansfield bookings: Chris Smith, Istead.

Ref: Paul Graham (Manchester).
