Fleetwood Town v Droylsden

Fleetwood Town manager Micky Mellon remains confident that a turn around in Sunday's play-off second leg tie against Droylsden is an achievable outcome, despite trailing 2-0 after the first leg.

Town remain undefeated in their last three home games and an extended run of form could see the seaside town in the Blue Square North play-off final, with Mellon remaining optimistic of their chances.

"The first goal will be vital. If we can capitalise quickly then the momentum will definitely be with us. With the crowd behind us from the very start who knows what the score will end up.

"The Cod Army is a massive bonus in our favour. A huge 600-700 travelling support made Droylsden's ground feel like our place on Wednesday. The noise they created was magnificent and seeing three sides of an away ground filled with our support is a true testament to feeling people have for this football club and their home town".

Selection may become Mellon's biggest problem as Nathan Pond, Alan Wright, Jamie Milligan and Lee Thorpe all could miss Sunday's game through various injuries or illness.

With Premiere league experience, and after having a successful season at the club, the possible absence of left-back Alan Wright would undoubtedly be a major blow to Fleetwood's chances on Sunday afternoon.

Mellon also highlighted the importance of forward Thorpe as "a massively vital player" and will clearly be hoping that both are fit come Sunday afternoon.

A second spot finish in the Blue Square North, and a potential chance at the play-off final, means the club finished the season in their highest league position ever. Mellon remains proud of the performances this season but puts into perspective what this term has meant.

"If we reach the play-off finals, and then win promotion, it would be a step in the right direction for this football club. The infrastructure and support at the club are all Conference National standard and we must now make another massive stride on the pitch this Sunday. Regardless, we've progressed as a club will continue to get better every year".

Should Fleetwood reach the final then their opposition will either be Workington or Alferton Town, who currently lead 1-0 going into their second leg. The final is due to be played on Sunday 9th May at the home of the highest finishing team in the league table.
