Saturday's Blue Square North Preview

The Blue Square North title is still up for grabs this weekend with Southport and Fleetwood Town both aiming to end their seasons on a high note.

Third-placed Alfreton Town can expect a stern test when play-off chasing Hinckley United visit the Impact Arena on Saturday.

The Reds are already assured of their play-off participation, while the sixth-placed Knitters need to win in order to have a chance of leapfrogging Corby Town into the last play-off place.

However, Hinckley should not expect an easy game as Alfreton will be aiming to pick up at least one point in order to secure a third-place finish.

Droylsden prepare for the visit of strugglers Redditch United to Butcher's Arms as they look to crash the Blue Square North play-off party.

The Bloods sit in seventh position with 61 points from 39 games and will have to win on Saturday to have any hope of snatching fifth place.

However, if Hinckley win their game against Alfreton Town, then Droylsden will have to be content with a sixth-place finish.

Tenth-placed Eastwood Town play host to promotion-chasing Southport at Coronation Park after a 3-0 defeat to Ilkeston Town in midweek.

However, the visitors also suffered a defeat in midweek at the hands of Alfreton Town.

Southport currently hold a one-point lead at the summit of the Blue Square North and manager Liam Watson has called on his side to end the season with a bang.

Watson told the Southport Visiter: "I'm led to believe the pitch is in the worst condition ever but that does not really matter to me.

"If I would have been offered this situation at the start of the season then I would snapped your hand off.

"Obviously there were mixed emotions after Tuesday night but I will keep faith with the same group of players and we will be at our strongest, bar the absence of Dales (Steve Daly).

"We never got the job done at home but I would much prefer to do it away from home with the real supporters."

Second-placed Fleetwood Town will have to claim all three points against Stalybridge Celtic at Highbury Stadium if they are to have any chance of finishing in pole position in the Blue Square North.

Fleetwood boss Micky Mellon is expecting a tough game but is targeting a win nonetheless.

He told the club's official website: "Jim Harvey and his side certainly gave us a run for our money back in March and it was only an inspired, late performance by one of the Blue Square North's leading strikers which separated the teams.

"We must be ready for a similar performance as the Stalybridge players try and have their say on the championship race.

"It's a challenge we are ready to face and one the lads know how to handle. There have been some 27 times in the Blue Square North when we have shown we know how to win football matches and this weekend will be no exception.

"We have the added bonus of the Cod Army on our side and anyone who was at Bower Fold in March will know just how much of an advantage our support provides."

Elsewhere, 14th-placed Gainsborough Trinity entertain 13th-placed Blyth Spartans at the Northolme, while Dave Mehew's Gloucester City play host to eighth-placed Ilkeston Town at the Corinium Stadium.

Already-relegated Harrogate Town play host to 12th-placed Northwich Victoria at Wetherby Road, while 15th-placed Hyde United welcome 18th-placed Solihull Moors to Ewen Fields.
