Monday's Blue Square Bet North Wrap

League leaders Alfreton Town kept their place at the summit with a 2-0 victory over visiting Stafford Rangers in Monday's Blue Square Bet North action.

The Reds prevailed thanks to goals on either side of the break by Paul Clayton (22) and Liam Hearn (pen 89).

Second-placed AFC Telford United maintained the pressure with a 4-1 drubbing of Nuneaton Town at New Bucks Head. Phil Trainer (27, 87) completed a late brace to go with strikes by Andy Brown (51) and Greg Mills, while Justin Marsden (87) bagged a consolation goal for the hapless visitors.

Shaun Pearson's 28th minute effort was all that separated Boston United in their defeat of strugglers Eastwood Town.

Solihull Moors inflicted an identical score-line on Worcester City, with Graeme Armstrong's 78th minute penalty proving decisive.

Shaun Vipond netted a late winner as third-placed Workington edged Vauxhall Motors 2-1 at Borough Park. After a goalless first-half, The Reds struck through Jonny Wright in the 54th minute. Obi Anorou drew level with ten minutes to go before Vipond surfaced in the dying stages to bag the points.

In other action, first-half strikes by Glenn Walker (27) and Chris Hope was enough for Corby Town to see off Hinckley United at Rockingham Triangle, while Guiseley scraped past Hyde United courtesy of Liam Needham's early 18th minute effort.

It was a dramatic climax at Butcher's Arm Ground as lowly Blyth Spartans struck three unanswered blows past Droylsden following a goalless hour of football. Stephen Turnball broke the deadlock before scoring again in the dying stages along with Paul Brayson.

Gloucester City did their confidence a world of good by thumping bottom-of-the-table Redditch United 5-0 at Whaddon Road. The Tigers cruised to three points with Darren Mullins (55,59) and Michael Symonds (59, pen 78) both hitting braces to go with Mike Tambling's 10th minute opener.

There were even more goals at New Manor Ground as Gainsborough Trinity outscored hosts Ilkeston 5-2. Leon Metham netted a third minute opener but Jack Watts equalised three minutes later. The visitors then raced in to a commanding lead through a quick-fire brace by Luke Waterfall (29,41). Methan (55) and Jefferson Lewis (57) struck within two minutes of each other to effectively wrap up the result, although Josh Burge scored a consolation goal for The Robins on 67 minutes.

It was a less spectacular affair at Bowler Fold as Graeme Armstrong's 78th minute penalty saw visiting Harrogate Town sink Stalybridge Celtic.
