Saturday's Blue Square North wrap

Blue Square North leaders Southport once again proved their class as they eased past play-off chasing Corby 4-0 at Haig Avenue on Saturday afternoon.

Vice captain Michael Powell's double either side of half time coupled with a 19th-minute Ciaran Kilheeney effort and a Chris Simm goal secured the points for the Sandgrounders, who are sitting pretty at the top of the table.

They are seven points clear at the top, but have played a game more than second-placed Droylsden.

At the Impact Arena, Fleetwood Town put on a superb display to stun fellow promotion hopefuls Alfreton Town 4-1.

A different result seemed on the cards when Andy Todd opened the scoring for the hosts on the 30 minute. The celebrations were short-lived though as Steve McNulty converted a penalty for the Fishermen just two minutes later.

The spot kick gave the visitors all the momentum and Sean Clancy fired them in front just before half time. After the interval, the encounter belonged to Gareth Seddon, who hit a double (48, 82) to finish off the rout.

Fleetwood are now one point above fifth-placed Alfreton Town.

Second-from-bottom Vauxhall Motors had a miserable afternoon as Solihull Moors hit five unanswered goals at Damson Park.

Indy Khela started the torture for the visitors after 17 minutes, but the floodgates only really opened after half time.

James McPike (57) and Jake Edwards (72) put the game beyond the Motormen, before Mark Gardner made it 4-0 with ten minutes left on the clock.

Vauxhall are now level on points with rock-bottom Harrogate Town.
