Saturday's Blue Square North Wrap

Blue Square North League leaders Kettering Town opened up a six-point gap at the top of the table as chasing duo AFC Telford and Harrogate Town both dropped vital points.

Kettering 3-0 Worcester

Despite the one-sided score-line, Kettering were made to work hard for their points at Rockingham Road on Saturday.

Jon Brady put the home side in the ascendancy on 19 minutes but Town failed to add to their tally until the 81st minute when Westcarr doubled his side's lead.

Westcarr duly added a third in injury time with the visitors having already resigned themselves to defeat.

Gainsborough 1-1 AFC Telford

Telford will be ruing their luck, or lack of it as they were held by Gainsborough in their Blue Square encounter on Saturday.

Jimmy Turner had the misfortune of putting through his own net on 18 minutes but will be grateful to teammate Simon Forsdic for levelling matters just four minutes later.

But that was as good as it got for the promotion hopefuls, who failed to really get to grips with this tie.

Harrogate Town 1-2 Nuneaton

Jordan Stepien was the hero for Nuneaton as he scored twice to see off Harrogate Town at Wetherby Road.

Stepien got his side off the mark inside the opening 20 minutes before Gareth Grant levelled matters on the hour mark.

But Stepien popped up 69 minutes to assure his side of all three points.

Stalybridge Celtic 3-0 Workington

High-flying Stalybridge Celtic eased past a poor Workington side as they continued their push for promotion.

Andrew Smart broke the deadlock early on after referee Gavin Johnson awarded a 14th minute penalty.

The rest of the first-half was a dour affair and it was only in the 76th minute that James Dean was able to double the Badgers score.

The in-form Alex Meechan added insult to injury in injury time, condemning the visitors to an absolute rout.

Burscough 3-2 Hyde

Burscough edged out opponents Hyde in a fascinating encounter at Victoria Park this Blue Square Saturday.

A goalless first half preceded a five-goal feast in the second-period with the hosts turning around a 2-0 deficit to win 3-2.

Peter Band broke the deadlock within minutes of the restart with Chris Simm adding a second just 10 minutes later. But before the celebrations were over, Brian Moogan had pulled a goal back.

Ciaran Kilheeny then levelled matter with a penalty on 69 minutes before Moogan sealed the win with his 89th minute winner.

Tamworth 1-3 Southport

Tony Gray earned himself the match ball after netting a hat-trick as his Southport made light work of struggling Tamworth.

Gray was a threat every time he received the ball in attack and it didn't take him long to find the mark.

The striker followed up his 13th minute opener with a second in the 41st before finishing off the home side with a 51st minute strike.

Christopher Nurse grabbed his side a consolation goal with 30 minutes to play.

Redditch United 1-0 Blyth Spartans

Redditch United sneaked a narrow win against a toothless Blyth Spartans side. The first-half ended goalless as neither team were able to penetrate the others' defence.

Chris Murphy finally broke the deadlock after 57 minutes for the hosts, much to the delight of manager Gary Whild. Harry Dunn will be looking for a big response from his Spartans side.

Hinckley 3-1 Leigh RMI

Hinckley won the battle of the relegation strugglers after sealing all three points against a lowly Leigh RMI side.

Tom Birch opened the scoring in the 55th minute for the hosts and a mere seven minutes later, referee Mick Bell pointed to the spot.

Adam Webster made no mistake with the penalty and doubled United's lead.

Things got worse for the rock-bottom visitors as Webster added his second and the Knitters third for the night.

Bradley Maylett grabbed a consolation goal for Leigh in the 80th minute, but the damage had already been done and Steve Bleasdale's men seem are destined for the drop.

Alfreton Town 4-0 Vauxhall Motors

Vauxhall Motors edged ever closer to relegation as mid-table Alfreton Town played them off the park in front of 304 fans at North Street on Saturday.

The visitors started and finished poorly as they conceded goals in the beginning and closing stages of this match.

Josh Law and Paul Clayton grabbed all the goals with Law netting in the 17th and 86th minutes with Paul Clayton on target on 18 and 83 minutes.

Barrow 5-1 Solihull Moors

Barrow thrashed lowly Solihull at Holker Street on Saturday as they made their play-off hopes known. Currently in 10th spot, the Bluebirds will need a few more similar results to boost their league position.

Jason Walker was first out of the blocks as his 12th minute effort found the back of the net, but the lead was short lived as Andy Ducross equalised just three minutes later.

However, that was to be the last of Solihull's goals as the hosts then began to assert their dominance. Nick Rogan scored his first of two on 24 minutes with Steve McNulty adding a third from the penalty spot on 36 minutes.

Rogan added his second and Barrow's fourth with 30 minutes to go before Matt Henney made it five on 81 minutes.

Hucknall 1-2 Boston Utd

Hucknall thought they had done enough to earn themselves a point against Boston Utd on Saturday but a 76th minute penalty crushed those hopes.

Danny Mayman put the home side ahead through a penalty of their own after 12 minutes before Anthony Crane's 55th minute equaliser.

But in a cruel twist of fate, Crane then stole all three points as he buried his second-half spot-kick.
