Saturday's Blue Square North wrap

Kettering Town could not extend their lead at the top as they were held to a stalemate by promotion hopefuls Harrogate Town in what was another exciting Saturday afternoon of Blue Square North football.

AFC Telford 2-1 Hyde United

AFC Telford continued their pursuit of top spot with a well-earned victory over Hyde United at New Bucks Head on Saturday afternoon.

Gary Birch put the home side into the lead in the 32nd minute after a sustained spell of pressure from the Bucks.

Stephen Jagielka added a second shortly after the break with a fine finish, but Chris Simms set up a frantic last five minutes when he found the net from close range for the away side.

However, the home side defended sternly during the closing exchanges to hold out for a well deserved three-points.

Boston United 2-0 Solihull Moors

Boston United put in a fine performance to see off the challenge of Solihull Moors at the Staffsmart Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Jonathan Rowan got the ball rolling for the home side in the fifth minute when he found the back of the net from 12 yards out.

The home side could not capitilise on their early goal and were nearly made to pay before the break.

The home side, however, held out with aplomb and when Jon Stevenson netted on 70 minutes the home supporters could breathe a huge sigh of relief as the match and points were in the bag.

Harrogate Town 0-0 Kettering

Harrogate Town and Kettering Town could not be separated in their top-of-the-table clash at Wetherby Road on Saturday afternoon as they two team's played out a goalless draw.

The match itself will be remembered for all the wrong reasons as misplaced passes and lack of attacking intent marred both halves.

The home side will feel a little aggrieved with the result as they had a clear shout for a penalty in the second-half, but nothing came of it and the match ended as a stalemate.

Hinckley 1-2 Barrow

A late winner from Mark Boyd handed visiting Barrow the three-points at Hinckley's Marston Road on Saturday afternoon.

The first-half will not live long in the minds of the supporters present as both side's lacked any real attacking intent.

The second-half, however, was a totally different affair as both side's came out swinging in search of the opening goal.

It was the home side who did break the deadlock in the 53rd minute when Gez Murphy netted from the penalty spot.

Their lead did not last for long, however, as the visitors netted a penalty of their own through Chris Thompson in the 61st minute.

Then it was Boyd's time to shine as he stole in to net the winner seconds from the final whistle to hand the visitors the three-points.

Leigh RMI 1-3 Gainsborough

Struggling Leigh RMI could not handle the attacking presence of Gainsborough as the visitors ran out victors at Hilton Park on Saturday afternoon.

Despite the visitors domination of the first-half, the home side did take the lead through Gavin Salmon in the 28th minute.

That lead was scratched out in the 40th minute when Robin Gibson found the net at the wrong end of the field.

The visitors continued to dominate in the second-half an thoroughly deserved to take the lead for the first time in the match when Lewis McMahon netted from the penalty spot.

Danny Anson made sure of the points in the 85th minute to round off an impressive victory for the home side.

Redditch United 2-0 Workington

Redditch United won the battle of the mid-table side's at the Valley on Saturday when they saw off the challenge of Workington.

The first-half offered very little in attacking entertainment for the fans as both side's seemed content with sitting back and waiting for the opposition to attack.

The second-half was a very different story, however, as the home side came out in a determined mood.

The breakthrough finally came in the 68th minute when Liam Daly netted from the penalty spot.

Damien Markman found the net with seconds left on the clock to hand the home side the three-points and put to bed any aspirations the visitors had of snatching a late point.

Southport 2-2 Nuneaton

Southport and Nuneaton Borough could not be separated at Haig Avenue on Saturday afternoon as they played out an entertaining 2-2 draw.

Neil Robinson opened the scoring for the home side on 38 minutes, before Andy Brown equalised on the stroke of half-time from the penalty spot.

The visitors took the lead for the first time in the match on 62 minutes when Danny Holmes put the ball into his own net, but Neil Prince popped up on 80 minutes to claim a point for the home side.

Tamworth 4-0 Hucknall

A hat-trick from Nick Wright helped Tamworth to a 4-0 romp of struggling Hucknall at the Lamb Ground on Saturday afternoon.

Wright netted in the 7th, 39th and 74th minutes to complete his three-goal haul, while Christopher Nurse grabbed a goal for himself on 72 minutes.

The home side dominated the match from start to finish and thoroughly deserved to claim the three-points.

Vauxhall Motors 2-2 Blyth Spartans

Rivacre Road witnessed an entertaining clash on Saturday afternoon as Vauxhall Motors and Blyth Spartans played out a 2-2 draw.

Peter Heler put the home side into the lead on 10 minutes when he pounced on some poor defending from the visiting side to find the back of the net.

Andy Johnson pulled the side's level on 35 minutes with a fine strike, but Paul Taylor stole the lead for the home side again with seconds left in the first-half.

The second-half was as entertaining as the first but neither side could provide as much goalmouth action.

Chris McCabe did, however, in the 76th minute when he netted to hand his side a share of the spoils, much to the disappointment of the home supporters.

The clash between Stalybridge Celtic and Alfreton Town had to be postponed due to a frozen pitch.
