Taylor starts trimming Boston squad

Five Boston United players have agreed in principle to stay at York Street for the new season while defender Tony Crane looks set to leave the club.

Chris Wright, Jon Rowan, Jon Froggatt, Tom Matthews and Kieran Leabon have all agreed to sign with Tommy Taylor's side for another year after they were offered new deals by the club earlier this week.

Goalkeeper Wright returned to United earlier this season having departed just months before after a fall-out with Taylor over his refusal to sign anything other than non-contract terms with the club last summer.

Rowan joined United in October from local rivals Boston Town and has proved a major success in a left wing role that he made his own whilst also helping out in attack and central midfield.

His goal contribution proved to be a major plus over the course of the season with several clubs from higher levels rumoured to be watching him in recent weeks.

Leabon and Matthews both signed last summer as promising youngsters and despite spells out of the team, both ended the season in the first team and are viewed as key to Taylor's plans for the future.

The re-signing of Froggatt will be one that pleases United fans the most.

The big frontman has emerged as a fans favourite since his arrival last summer, chipping with some vital goals as well as displaying his workrate and willingness to get stuck in.

Talks are still ongoing with Paul Ellender, Matt O'Halloran, Lee Thompson and Micky Nuttell.

However, Taylor has been unable to come to an amicable agreement with Tony Crane and the defender is expected to leave the club in the near future.

The latest saga in an eventful season for Crane saw him kept on the bench for the run-in to the end of the season after Taylor revealed the former Sheffield Wednesday man hadn't attended any training sessions of late.

Thought to be struggling with the daily commute from his Yorkshire base, Crane will now be looking for a club closer to his home but his void in defence, attack too, won't be easy to replace.

Defender Rob Wesley, who only made his United debut at the weekend, has also left the club.
