Saturday's Blue Square North Wrap

Southport and Barrow both won their final league matches of the season to secure their place in the Play-Offs, rendering Harrogate Town's 1-1 draw with Workington meaningless as they settled for sixth spot.

Vauxhall Motors 1-2 Southport

In search of three points to secure a play-off spot, Southport got off to the perfect start with two early goals.

Neil Prince blasted through a crowd of players for the opener after just seven minutes with Tony Gray adding a second minutes later with Prince having turned provider.

Southport remained in control for most of the game but were forced to endure a tense finish as Paul Taylor curled his free-kick into the bottom right corner of the net with 13 minutes to play.

Barrow 1-0 Worcester

Barrow saw off Worcester by a solitary 17th minute Matt Henney goal in front of 2468 ecstatic fans at Holker Street to claim their place in the Play-Offs.

It was a disappointing end to the season for the new management team of Richard Dryden and Carl Heeley who will however be mightily impressed with their new goalkeeper Chris Sanna, who was immense throughout.

Harrogate Town 1-1 Workington

Harrogate failed to claim the three points they needed to give them a shout of the Play-Off places with Danny Holland the only Town player on target after 68 minutes as he cancelled out Tony Hopper 51st minute effort.

Their efforts were all in vain however with both Southport and Barrow seeing off their opponents to claim fourth and five place respectively.

Burscough 1-3 AFC Telford

Some crucial absentees hampered Burscough's chances of a positive end to their first ever Blue Square North campaign as they lost to AFC Telford at Victoria Park on Saturday.

The result sees the Bucks finish as runners-up and now travel to Barrow on Wednesday for the first leg of the play-off semi-final.

Telford had Ian Holmes and Jamie Vermiglio to thank for their goals with Holmes first on target after 18 minutes.

Vermiglio added a second with 30 minutes to go before Holmes added his second and Telford's third five minutes later.

Ciaran Kilheeny scored a late consolation goal on the final whistle.

Stalybridge 6-0 Redditch

Stalybridge emphatically thumped Redditch with no reply on Saturday to set up a play-off semi-final against Southport. Redditch held out for 37 minutes but when the goals started flowing through Steve Payne on 38 minutes they didn't stop.

James Dean scored his first on 44 minutes with Lee Ellington on target on the hour mark.

Steve Torpey was celebrating his strike on 77 minutes while James Dean was on hand to bury his second of the night with less than 10 minutes to play. But Lee Ellington had the last say with his second and Stalybridge's sixth after 85 minutes.

Nuneaton 1-0 Tamworth

Alex Rodman's 70th minute goal was the only real highlight of a dull derby encounter as the season played itself out without much fanfare at Manor Park on Saturday.

Manager Kevin Wilkin has threatened a clear out in the off-season although his transfer kitty has yet to be secured.

But changes are needed after a horrendous run-in where Boro won just once in their last eight league games, with just eight points from a possible 24.

They fared better that Tamworth however, who finish the season a lowly 15.

Solihull Moors 2-2 Hucknall

Despite having nothing to play for both Solihull Moors and Hucknall Town produced some entertaining football with four goals the reward for the 220 fans that packed the Damson Park rafters.

Ben Saunders nipped in after just four minutes to give the away side the advantage but Mr. D Gratton evened up proceedings when he awarded a penalty just before half time that Darren Middletond duly converted.

Hucknall took the lead for the second time through Daniel Bacon after 51 minutes but Jason Moore ensured a share of the spoils for Solihull with a 60th minute equaliser.

Leigh RMI 0-2 Blyth Spartans

Blyth Spartans only finished four places above Leigh RMI Blue Square North but with a massive 26 points difference of.

And the difference in quality told as first Robert Dale put his side in the lead after just 18 minutes before Ged Dalton killed off the game with a second goal with 51 minutes of the match played.

Alfreton Town 0-0 Hinckley Utd

Hinckley's fantastic run of eight games unbeaten in the run in including six wins and two draws meant they enjoyed a relaxed final day to their Blue Square North campaign, having secured their survival last week.

No goals from either side means this game ended a very friendly, but dull 0-0.

Boston Utd 2-1 Hyde

Boston's 2-1 come from behind victory saw them move up one place on the final day to finish their season in 10th spot.

Hyde remained in 9th a further four points to the good. Matthew Tipton's curling free-kick into the top corner from 25 yards was the perfect end to a good first half for the visitors but the home side increased the tempo and their performance in the second half and took victory thanks to Simon Weaver's 70th minute headed equaliser and Jon Froggatt 80th minute winner as he fired home the loose ball from a tight angle.

Kettering 2-1 Gainsborough

Champions Kettering ended their season on a high when they beat Gainsborough Trinity thanks to goals from Brett Solkhon after 62 minutes and Mark Cooper at the death.

Gainsborough were hoping to pull off a famous double over the Blue Square North Champions but unfortunately for them David Reeves' 77th minute penalty was the only time they threatened to take the gloss off an otherwise perfect season for Kettering Town.
