Steele wins player of the month

Northwich Victoria's Lee Steele has been voted by fans as the Blue Square Premier "Player of the Month" for March.

The Liverpool-born striker scored 8 goals during the month as The Vics continued their unbeaten run.

Steele has been a key figure in his team's battle to avoid the drop to the Blue Square North.

The award makes a welcome double for the North West club as boss Dino Maamria also topped the votes for the monthly manager title.

The real prize will be their end of season aim to avoid relegation, but with Steele's goals and the teams recent good form they have safety in their sights.

The award in the Blue Square North goes to Craig Westcarr of Kettering Town. The newly crowned Champions of the division were helped to the title by Westcarr's excellent form during March.

The former England under-18 international found the net five times for the Poppies as they secured 15 points during the period, paving the way to winning the league and automatic promotion.

St Albans City goalkeeper Paul Bastock wins the Blue Square South award after an incredible run of form to begin his second stint at Clarence Park.

Bastock had been at Rushden & Diamonds but rejoined City on the last day of February to help in their struggle against relegation.

Coming straight into the side on the 1st of March, away at Weston-Super-Mare, the veteran stopper kept a clean-sheet and went on to concede only twice in six games during the month.
