Barrow chairman calls for fan support

Barrow AFC chairman Brian Keen has revealed his disappointment at the Blue Square North club's attendances in the last two matches.

The Bluebirds have broken into the top half of the table recently with a number of solid performances, including a superb 5-1 win over Solihull Moors.

They still have an outside chance of clinching a play-off berth by the end of the season and Keen has called on the club's supporters to come out in numbers.

"We're building a team here, the football has never been better, and the results have been tremendous," Keen told the North-West Evening Mail.

"We've done everything the fans asked for. We thank the ones who have come, but we're bitterly disappointed with the last two gates.

"As a board we don't know what more we can do.

"As a lover of football, it was tremendous against Solihull and put a smile on the fans' faces. We were looking in terms of 1,100 and those who missed the game lost out.

"On Tuesday we were up against the Champions League. I've talked to other non-league chairmen about this and we cannot compete with live television and Sky.

"The FA has got to look at this in more depth, the revenue is so important to the likes of us and others in the same boat.

"There must be some ideas where non-league clubs can be compensated or fixtures allowed to be switched to another night.

"The FA can spend £20m on bringing in an Italian and his entourage but have not got to forget the game at non-league and grassroots."
