Tuesday night's North and South round-up

Boston and Hyde suffered defeats on the road in the Blue Square North while Blue Square South play-off chasers Braintree cruised to comfortable victory over league leaders Lewes.

Blue Square North

AFC Telford 0-0 Nuneaton

Telford missed out on the opportunity to cut the gap on league leaders Kettering after being held to a goalless draw by play-off hopefuls Nuneaton Borough.

The Bucks trail Kettering by four points but have now played two games more than the league leaders.

Nuneaton won't be too disappointed with the result as they keep their promotion hopes alive with a hard-fought draw.

Stalybridge 3-1 Alfreton Town

Stalybridge strengthened their promotion credentials with a comfortable win over Alfreton Town at Bower Fold on Tuesday evening.

Celtic got off to a flying start when Steve Torpey found the back of the net after just two minutes and Ashley Winn doubled their advantage just before the half-time whistle.

Torpey netted his second just three minutes after the restart to put his side in a commanding position making Chris Bowler's goal in the 78th minute, nothing more than a consolation for Alfreton.

Tamworth 1-0 Redditch

Tamworth earned themselves some breathing room in the bottom half of the table with a narrow victory over Redditch at the Lamb Ground.

Just over 500 supporters turned out for this clash and they had to wait until the 70th minute for Tamworth's Nick Wright to break the deadlock.

After this latest result Tamworth find themselves in 15th place with 39 points while the Reds sit in 12th place with 45 points from 33 fixtures.

Vauxhall Motors 1-0 Boston Utd

Relegation-threatened Vauxhall recorded a morale-boosting win over Tommy Taylor's Boston United at Rivacre Road on Tuesday night.

The Motors find themselves at the wrong end of the table with the end of the season looming and this win will have done wonders for their confidence.

The match looked to be heading for a goalless draw but with just a few minutes left on the clock, Vauxhall's Peter Heller popped up to score a vital winner for his side.

Meanwhile, the Pilgrims can certainly wave their hopes of claiming a promotion play-off spot goodbye after this latest result.

Workington 2-0 Hyde

Workington enhanced their chances of survival with a comfortable win over play-off chasers Hyde United at Borough Park.

Hyde have been looking to close the gap on the play-off places but have fallen further behind after this latest result.

The first half ended in a stalemate and both goals came in the space of four minutes.

Graham Anthony broke the deadlock on the hour mark and David Hewson doubled their tally just four minutes later.

Blue Square South

Braintree Town 3-0 Lewes

Braintree Town maintained their push for a play-off berth after easing to victory over a surprisingly dull Lewes side.

The league leaders gave their supporters little to cheer about as they were simply outplayed by their opponents on Tuesday evening.

Bill Burgess broke the deadlock after just seven minutes and Richard Jolly doubled their lead two minutes after the restart.

The Iron put the result beyond doubt just on the hour mark thanks to Bradley Quinton and this win lifts them to within touching distance of the promotion play-off places.

Hampton & Richmond 0-0 Bath City

Play-off contenders Hampton & Richmond Borough and Bath City cancelled each other out in an evenly balanced encounter at Beveree Stadium.

The Beavers are now on par with third-placed Eastleigh and share the same goal difference and points tally.

Bath are on the edge of the play-off zone and trail fifth place by just one point.
