AFC Telford 0-2 Wrexham

Andy Morrell's Wrexham went two points clear at the top of the league standings with a 2-0 victory over AFC Telford United at New Bucks Head.

Joe Clarke put the Red Dragons ahead on 13 minutes with a close-range finish and Jake Speight made sure of the result with a well-placed header in the 67th minute.

The match started at a high tempo with both sides looking to make an early breakthrough, but it was Wrexham who looked more dangerous in the opening exchanges.

Mathias Pogba came close to firing Wrexham into the lead on 12 minutes but his powerful effort was tipped over the bar by goalkeeper Ryan Young.

However, they were not to be denied one minute later as Mark Creighton headed Neil Ashton's long-range free-kick back across goal for Clarke to tap in at the far post.

The Bucks had a glorious chance to draw level on 20 minutes but Sean Newton's header at the back post struck the base of the post and the follow-up was blocked by 'keeper Joslain Mayebi.

The second half was closely contested and tempers started to flare with a whole host of players picking up yellow cards early on.

Wrexham eased the pressure on themselves when Creighton flicked Curtis Obeng's throw into the area for Speight, who headed home from close range to make it 2-0.

And they could have further extended their advantage on 78 minutes but Pogba somehow missed the target from just three yards out.

Telford had another chance to open their account in the 81st minute but Chris Sharp's header was straight at Mayebi.

And their afternoon went from bad to worse in injury time as Phil Trainer picked up a second yellow card and his marching orders for a foul on Adrian Cieslewicz.
